The Junior School aims to provide a wide-ranging curriculum giving students opportunities to explore a variety of activities to enhance development both academically and socially.
In Years 7 and 8 a traditional core curriculum is compulsory, and includes English, Mathematics, Science, Humanities, Music, Art, Religion and Values, Physical and Outdoor Education and Sport.
At Years 9 and 10 students continue with the core curriculum, and also choose from an array of elective subjects, including the World of Business, Food Technology, Environmental Science, Electronics, Visual Design, Multimedia and Art.
At Westbourne students are taught effective study and time-management techniques and how to set realistic achievable goals.
Westbourne offers the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) for study over the final two years of the students' secondary schooling. Students can study a wide range of subjects and are assisted in the subject selection process by a full-time Careers Counsellor offering individual guidance and support. Students studying in Units 1 and 2 (Year 11) undertake 6 subjects including English (ESL) and 5 subjects at Unit 3 & 4 (Year 12). Students may choose to study an additional subject. At VCE students may choose to study their native language as one of their subjects. Students in Year 12 can also undertake University Enhancement English Literature and MUPHAS Maths from the University of Melbourne.
