Information Services

Information Services at Westbourne Grammar School provide a centralised service to meet the information, curriculum and recreational needs of students and staff. The Information Services Department combines the Information Technology and Library Departments. The focus is on supporting the digital information literacy skills of the Westbourne Community and their understanding of how it can be used to further support their learning and work.

These needs are met by:

  • Provision of appropriate digital literacy use across all levels of the curriculum
  • Access to a school computer for all students
  • Network access in all areas of the school
  • Research, development and encouragement of new uses of information technology within the Westbourne Community
  • Coordinating the Notebook Program
  • Research skills program (including ICT and Information literacy)
  • IT Help Desk which is open for trouble shooting and advice

Notebook Program

Students in Years 8 to 12 at Westbourne Grammar School are involved in the Notebook Program.

As part of the curriculum it is compulsory that all Year 8 to 12 students purchase or lease a notebook computer. The school partners with IT Education specific suppliers to provide parents with a quality, cost effective service model. Westbourne employs a full time team of specialised IT personnel dedicated to delivering IT services.

Key components of the Notebook Program include:

  • Upon receiving their laptops, Year 8 students participate in a whole day program, including technical workshops and good IT study habits
  • Opportunity for innovative and cutting edge curriculum design
  • Integrated access to the school network, designed to deliver best curriculum outcomes via monitored internet services, site license software, personal data backup drive, and an online curriculum delivery system that is accessible 24/7
  • Access to peripheral resources, including multifunction printers/photocopiers, multimedia units, flat bed scanners and digital cameras
  • Access to specialised Information Services staff, available during business hours including school holidays
  • Access to loan laptops where a student's laptop is unavailable for an extended period of time due to a service event.
