Cross Country / Athletics
The Cross Country program commences in mid March and concludes with the major interschool competition, usually held in mid May. Training is conducted before school, usually at the Westbourne Campus. Some off campus sessions are also conducted to allow students to experience different terrains. Local fun runs are also targeted and students are encouraged to participate. The aim of the cross country program is to prepare students for the major interschool competitions however, just improving general fitness and experiencing the joys and benefits of running are also important.
The Athletics program runs from the start of Term 3 and concludes following the major interschool competition at Olympic Park. The School is very fortunate to have many very well qualified and credentialed coaches who run the training sessions. Some sessions are held at school during school time but the majority of the sessions are conducted before school at either the Victoria University Athletics Track or Newport Park Athletics Track. Students involved in the Athletics Program also have the chance to attend an Athletics Camp. In recent years the venue for the camp has included such places as the AIS in Canberra and the Sports Super Centre on the Gold Coast.
