Location

The main school campus is at Truganina, 20 minutes from the Melbourne CBD in the growing western suburbs. Located on 48 hectares of land the school offers landscaped gardens, lakes, an abundance of sporting facilities as well as an Environmental Park.

Years 7 to 10

Years 7 to 10 build sound habits and establish study patterns which will benefit students through the Senior School and during tertiary study. Strong emphasis is placed upon pastoral care and the building of positive self-esteem throughout these critical adolescent years. Well qualified teachers are all carefully selected to foster academic and personal development and to guide the students in responsible management of increasing independence. The School also provides a Nurse, a Counsellor, and Chaplain who all offer support to students and families.

A sound academic programme where basic skills are taught thoroughly and used as building blocks for further academic disciplines is well established. Years 7 and 8 students follow a common curriculum.

Middle Years Programme

The Year 9 Middle Years Programme, 'Imagine', gives students the opportunity to become enthusiastic learners who are engaged and connected to their own learning during traditionally difficult years. Through our academically challenging and wide ranging curriculum we offer students an exciting learning opportunity. We aim to create independent learners who are secure in the knowledge they will be well prepared for the rigours of VCE and beyond.

An extensive music programme and a variety of sporting activities form an important part of the total co-curricular programme. Also available is a wide range of artistic experiences with outstanding resources.

Years 11 and 12

Motivation for our students is encapsulated in our school motto: "Age quod Agas" – That which you do, do well. Westbourne is well established as an academic institution challenging Years 11 and 12 students to fulfil their promise as young achievers. In particular, the VCE courses pursued during these years provide excellent training for senior students seeking to enter tertiary institutions.

The School enjoys an enviable reputation as a place of high academic standing. Such is the VCE pass rate that in 2008 96% of Westbourne applicants received an offer through VTAC in their first round of offers.

Students are supported in their academic and personal growth by caring, professional teaching staff who encourage resourcefulness, independence and maturity in all aspects of the student's life.

The School is totally supportive of parents' aspirations for their children, and encourages communication and close rapport between teachers and parents.

Academic progress in both Years 11 and 12 is supervised by subject teachers and Heads of Houses.

Facilities and Equipment

The Senior School at Westbourne has been purpose built to cater for students from Years 7 to 12. The contemporary buildings are well equipped to suit the growing needs of Senior School students. As laptop computers are compulsory from Year 8 to 12 all classrooms have wireless connection. The Senior School has an Intranet for family and student access.

Classes in the Senior School are laid out in faculties allowing each learning area to centralise their teaching staff as well as resources. This promotes greater student access to assistance in a particular area of learning. All classrooms are equipped to utilize the wide range of resources available to support learning. As well as faculty based learning students in the Senior School have access to modern facilities across the campus.
