Geoffrey Gordon Ryan, Principal of Westbourne Grammar School
Geoffrey Gordon Ryan is Principal of Westbourne Grammar School and has occupied that position since 1990. He is a graduate in Commerce from Melbourne University from which he also has a Diploma of Education. He also holds a Bachelor of Education Degree from Monash University and a Graduate Diploma in Curriculum from Rusden State College. He is a Fellow of the Australian College of Education, a Fellow of the Australian College of Educational Leaders, an Associate Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management, a Member of the Association of Heads of Independent Schools of Australia and a member of the Headmasters Conference of the United Kingdom.
Mr Ryan commenced teaching in 1970 and has taught at Mentone Boy's Grammar School where he taught Economics, Accounting and Computer Studies. He also occupied the position of Head of the Commerce Faculty and Director of Studies at that School. Mr Ryan was Head of Economics at the Heath-Clarke School in Croydon, Surrey, England, during 1975 and 1976. Prior to his appointment at Westbourne Grammar School, Mr Ryan was Deputy Headmaster and Head of the Senior School at St. Michael's Grammar School in St. Kilda.
Mr Ryan serves on a number of external educational bodies. He is A Board member of the Australian Institute of Quality Teaching and School Leadership (Teaching Australia), National Chair of the Association of Heads of Independent Schools of Australia, a former member of the Registered Schools Board of Victoria, a former Board member of the IARTV (Incorporated Association of Registered Teachers of Victoria), Past Chairman of the Consortium of Co-educational Schools, and former Deputy Chair of APAPDC.
Mr Ryan is married, has one son, and lives in Williamstown.
