Sunday 17 July was a fantastic day for the Westbourne community when we returned to the magnificent Elisabeth Murdoch Hall at the Melbourne Recital Centre for the annual concert. Warmly welcomed by Principal, Adrian Camm, a packed house enjoyed an eclectic range of musical items ranging from the modern to the classical.
This year our concert began with the inspirational sounds of Chong Lim’s Wominjeka, conducted by Director of Music, Andrew Leach. Then, over the course of the afternoon we heard from a wide variety of music groups including the junior concert choir (Hold Back the River), Mini Minors and Tiny Trebles, the symphonic wind band (Solas Ane (Yesterday’s Joy), Legends Big Band (A Big Cuppa Joe), senior strings, symphony orchestra and senior choir. Performer of the Year 2021 Winner, Ruby Streit’s, rendition of Mozart’s L’amero saro constante from Il Re Pastore was truly awe inspiring, as was Senior Piano Competition winner, Gabriel Larkin’s performance of Chopin’s Fantasie Impromptu. Performer of the Year Instrumental Section Winner 2022, Claire Nam gave a stellar presentation of Mozart’s Piano concerto No.23 in A, while Performer of the Year Vocal Section Winner 2022, Madeline Bryant mesmerised the audience with Habanera from Bizet’s Carmen. The program concluded with a vibrant massed singing of the hauntingly evocative, Life in a Northern Town.
