Historic alumni of note
Jack Joel OAM (1932-2017)
Jack Joel attended the school in the late 1930s. He was a highly successful businessman who established Australia’s first frozen chicken processing business and launched Australia’s first car leasing company JMJ. In 1999, he was awarded an OAM for his contribution to public life and philanthropic causes.
Dr Hector Maclean (1862-1934)
Hector Maclean attended the school in the 1870s. He established a medical practice in Williamstown after graduating from the University of Melbourne and founded the Williamstown Hospital in 1894. He also served with the Medical Corps of the Australian Imperial Force during the First World War in Egypt, Palestine and France.
Sir Charles Merrett (1863 – 1948)
Charles Merrett attended the school during the 1870s. He was a successful merchant and agriculturalist and had a military career that spanned from 1880 through to 1920 and culminated with the rank of colonel. An interest in politics and public service led to his involvement with many organisations and causes. He was knighted in 1934.
Dorothy Richards (Hick) - (1917 – 2016)
Dorothy Richards attended the school during the 1920s. She was a well-known writer and was a prize-winning author of articles, short stories, poetry and several books. She was a founding member of the Society of Women Writers (Victoria).
