Performer of the Year Celebrates Musical Excellence

The annual Performer of the Year competition continues to be a significant milestone for Westbourne’s senior music students, providing an opportunity to prepare and present challenging solo repertoire in a formal performance setting. Since its introduction in 2002, the event has celebrated musical excellence, dedication and performance artistry across the school community.

Preparing for the competition requires months of focused practice, technical refinement and musical interpretation, alongside close collaboration with accompanists. Above all, students demonstrate the confidence and composure required to perform before a live audience.

Congratulations to this year’s Performer of the Year recipients:

  • Nick, Year 10
    D. Shostakovich | Piano Concerto No. 2, Op. 102 – I. Allegro
  • Albert, Year 9
    A. Capuzzi | Double Bass Concerto in D Major – III. Rondo Allegro

Both students will perform with the Westbourne Symphony Orchestra at the Melbourne Recital Centre on Tuesday 21 July 2026 as part of the school’s Annual Concert, continuing a longstanding tradition of showcasing exceptional young musicians on a professional stage.

Thank you to adjudicator Sarah Curro of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra for sharing her expertise and insights, and to the alumni and past winners who attended and supported this year’s event.
