Westbourne’s new Institute helping to shape leaders of tomorrow

As part of its vision to shape learners who inspire the world, earlier this year, Westbourne Grammar School launched the Institute for Leadership and Growth.

Designed to strengthen leadership capability and create opportunities for lifelong learning, the initiative supports students, staff and families to grow, connect and learn together.

Principal and CEO Dr Adrian Camm said the Institute recognises that leadership development is most effective when it involves the entire school community.

“Empowering students to realise their leadership potential requires intentional opportunities for our community to learn together,” Dr Camm said.

“Seven months on, we are seeing strong attendance and positive feedback from students, families and staff as they embrace opportunities to learn and grow together.”

The Institute emerged from Westbourne’s 2030 Strategic Map, reflecting the school’s belief that developing people is central to achieving its vision.

Supporting students remains the Institute’s primary focus. Across Years P–12, learners are developing their understanding of effective leadership through experiences designed to build confidence, character and capability.

Recent initiatives include leadership workshops where Westbourne’s younger leaders were mentored by former School Captains who are now proud alumni. The Institute also delivered TEDx@Westbourne, where seventeen Senior School students shared their ideas, experiences and perspectives with the broader community.

The Institute also supports staff development through professional learning and career growth opportunities delivered by Westbourne experts and leading partners, including Melbourne Business School and Growth Coaching International.

“Investing in our people helps us deliver exceptional learning experiences for our students,” Dr Camm said.

For families, the Institute provides opportunities to engage with topics that matter in a complex and changing world, with expert-led sessions on supporting adolescents and estate planning.

Dr Camm said that while the programs differ in focus, they share a common purpose: creating opportunities for leadership, learning and personal growth across the Westbourne community.

“Together, we are building something that belongs to our community and will continue to create opportunities for students, staff and families in the years ahead,” he said
