Huge congratulations from all in the Westbourne community go to the fine young people who represent our Class of 2023. Throughout their years at Westbourne, this group has exemplified our values and are leaving equipped with a myriad of leadership skills that will serve them well in the years ahead.

I am delighted to report that this year has been another exceptional one. Our median ATAR of 85.65 is a fantastic reflection of the outstanding efforts of the Class of 2023 and is the second highest median in the school’s history. These excellent outcomes are a reflection of individual commitment to study and active engagement in all that the school has offered. They are also a testament to each student’s determination to do their best and succeed. Of course, none of this would be possible without the support of so many in our community, our teachers, parents, guardians and extended family members.

Beyond the numbers, amongst this group of Year 12s are many wonderful examples of individuals whose achievements say much about the learning journey undertaken by each of them and is a reminder that their final score is but one aspect of their broader school experience. What we are celebrating is the progress made, the potential realised, the enthusiasm, perseverance, and sense of purpose – whether that be in the classroom, on the sporting field, on stage, playing in an orchestra or singing in a choir, finding new confidence on an outdoor education adventure, or championing the needs of others through a community service initiative. Their involvement in this rich tapestry of opportunities means our young people are empowered with a strong sense of purpose and responsibility, well able to manage complex situations and contribute positively throughout their lives. They are truly ‘learners who will inspire the world.’

As principal, it has been my privilege to share in the experiences of our Class of 2023, to hear of their plans for the future, and to see how they have grown as a group and as independent young people ready for their next challenge. As they pass the baton of leadership to others, it is with great pride that I celebrate their achievements with them and thank them for all they have given to Westbourne over the years.
