Welcome back to a new year and a new Term! I’m sure you are all well into the ‘school routine’ again of packing lunches, ironing uniforms and organising weekend sport and school drop offs and pick-ups. It certainly is a case of all systems go as we charge into an exciting year ahead.
I would like to take the opportunity to officially welcome our new Associate Principal, Andrew McGregor, Director of Year 9 Program, Craig Rodgers and Errol Tongs, Business Manager. Andrew comes to us from Haileybury Senior School and will be the first K-12 Associate Principal at Westbourne. Craig Rodgers was formerly at the Beijing City International School and Errol Tongs joins us from King’s College in Auckland, NZ.
I also want to highlight the remarkable achievements of our VCE class of 2012. Their results were exceptional. We have ranked 54th out of 156 schools, (last year we were 92nd) that have achieved greater than 10% of 40+ scores.
The Dux of Westbourne Grammar School, Anisha Kidd, achieved an ATAR score of 99.70 and our median ATAR score of 85.6 is excellent (last year it was 80.3). We are very proud of all of our VCE students with 54 students ATARS exceeding 90 and four perfect study scores achieved.
Congratulations to our staff who have worked with these young people over several years culminating in such a successful Year 12 academic year.
Another exceptional achievement I would like to celebrate with you all is the opening of the new Year 7/Lote building at our Truganina campus. This building is a state-of-the-art facility which has been designed as an innovative, environmentally sustainable building with ergonomic furniture in bright, bold colours; plasma screens highlighting daily updates for students and thermo controlled automatic windows and cooling. It is an exemplary learning space for our Year 7 students to enjoy as they transfer into the Senior School. I hope you all get the chance to visit this building when you can.
We are now calling for scholarship applications for 2014 and 2015. Scholarship testing is on 16 March and all details can be found on our website www.westbournegrammar.com under ‘enrolments’. I encourage you all to ‘spread the word’ amongst your family and friends to highlight this wonderful opportunity.
With the upcoming Melbourne Food & Wine Festival happening in March, there are over 200 events you can choose from across the CBD and regional surrounds. To coincide with this fantastic annual festival, we have secured well known ‘foodie’ and former Food & Wine Editor for the Herald Sun, Wendy Hargreaves, to be our guest speaker at the upcoming International Women’s Day breakfast on 8 March. Read this edition of E-Horizons to find out more about this fabulous event held at our Truganina Campus. I encourage you all to join us with your children at this Breakfast to celebrate women’s achievements throughout history and across nations.
Finally, I would like to wish you all a wonderful first Term and I trust it will be smooth sailing, rewarding and enjoyable.
