November 15 saw Westbourne’s best chess players battle it out in the 2nd Annual Westbourne internal chess tournament for Years 5 and 8. Fifty players packed into the Studio space in the Verdon Centre to see who the ‘check mate’ champion would be! Students had 7 games throughout the day and the action was non-stop! Ultimately the Senior School players proved too strong and defeated the Junior School in the team format. The best overall player was Faiyaz Islam (8P) who was undefeated across seven games.
For many Junior School players, it was their first time playing in this type of format and all will be better for the experience. Many thanks to Phil from ‘Chess Kids’ who facilitated the day and to Mrs Richardson and Ms Henry for their support in organising.
